The Tiffin, Our Tradition
The story of the tiffin
In 1890, in Mumbai, a simple idea was born: deliver workers a home-cooked meal, still warm, right in the middle of their day. That idea became the dabbawala system — "those who carry the box."
Every morning, by bicycle and train, with no technology or GPS, these delivery workers move millions of meals across the city with near-perfect accuracy — studied by Harvard.
What makes the tiffin unique: its stacked compartments, keeping every flavour distinct until mealtime. More than a century later, that same idea inspires every Spice Tiffin box.
What you get
A full meal in every box: fragrant basmati rice, a generous curry, and a side — each in its own compartment, just as tradition intended.
